Nature Reclaims Earth – The Coronavirus

Coronavirus, the year 2020, is a wake-up call for us humans. Nature has sent us a direct message. “The earth always belonged to me and I am here to reclaim it. You the homo sapiens were only allowed to coexist with me, instead, you have destroyed it.”

The world has come to a complete halt with COVID-19. Humans are in lock-down with millions of people losing their daily wages. The once lucrative hospitality industry has been hit the worst with thousands of aircrafts standing at the tarmac. Restaurants, entertainment centers, events, and parks are all shut down. The loss of employment number is in millions.

Nature's revenge destroyed my livelihood.

Travelindustryatahalt

The hospitality industry has suffered the most during this Coronavirus disaster. I am one of the many people in the travel industry who has had her livelihood taken away. I remember it like it was yesterday. Mid-March 2020, my clients started canceling their travel plans. Parents whose children were studying aboard started panicking as they wanted their kids to return home before countries went into lock-down.

While this was happening, I had several scenarios running through my mind with two immediate worrisome thoughts. One was concern for my clients who were in other countries and not home, I had to bring them back home safely, and the other was concern for my immediate family. I have ailing parents and a teenage daughter who live with me, so keeping them safe was my top priority.

Coronavirus pandemic is no way close to the SARS virus epidemic that I had experienced in 2002 to 2004 in Hong Kong. My tension level started elevating as cases worldwide were on the rise. I was dreading the situation and thinking, how long will this go on for? How will I support my parents and my daughter? These thoughts became more troublesome as March came to an end and the travel business came to an abrupt stop.

I felt completely helpless as currently, I live in a third world country where the government gives no form of support or incentive to its citizens. Instead, during the arduous times, it is the norm of this country to increase prices of everything, which makes life more difficult as our expenses increase.

It is at this time I decided that I simply cannot sit idle, watch Netflix, Amazon Prime, and slowly lose my sanity with negative thoughts. Furthermore, I was certain of one thing that travel business will never be like it was before. It would have to go through a complete make-over.  Not only the airlines industry, but other sectors of the hospitality industry will also have to implement changes to make travelers and guest feel safe.

So, in the midst of all this, I decided to create a blog. I knew nothing about blogging and believe you me the journey so far into it after almost two months has not been easy. Not having anyone to help me, not a tech-savvy person, a bummer, and trust me, this is the biggest challenge in creating a blog. Furthermore, there are days when I am pulling my hair and pacing my room out of frustration because I cannot understand something technical which a ten years old child would be able to grasp and do it in half-hour.

However, success without struggle is no success. So, I am putting in all the time I have into my blog and I pray to God that, one day soon I can generate a decent income through my blog with which I can support my family and give some to the people who need help, and don’t have the resources or the means to get it.

Nature and its vengeance.

We humans had seen this coming with rising temperatures and sea levels. We didn’t give heed to global warming and had turned our backs to animals and plant life dying. Now It’s payback time.

Nature In the past has also shown vengeance against us, humans, with epidemics and pandemics and now in the 21st century, it has hit us hard with coronavirus.

What is nature up to while humans are in lock-down?

While we are going through an ambivalent period in our lives during the lock-down, nature is celebrating the quarantine break. It is rejoicing and reclaiming earth.

Countries like China, India, and the United States of America, they all have reported lower air pollution levels. Humans are in quarantine and that means a reduction in the number of public and private transportation on roads. Furthermore, factories are shut, people are not having campfires, restaurants which serve barbecue meals are all shut down. Due to a stop in all these and many other activities, the nitrogen dioxide and carbon monoxide levels in the air as compared to the same time last year have reduced substantially.

Some fake/some real news.

We are hearing stories of how animals are roaming free in the cities. Though I must state here that, the story regarding swans and dolphins in Venice canals could be fake news. Even before, swans used to fly in and out. While the video regarding the dolphin swimming in the canal channels which went viral was not even taken in Venice.

However yes, the water is clearer, but not necessarily cleaner. The place which was once populated by tourists is now deserted. Due to no gondolas in the canals, the water seems clearer as the water is not being churned. Therefore, the sediments do not float on to the water surface, and schools of tiny fish are now spotted in the same waters. This could also be because there is no churning and visibility is better.

Furthermore, confined animals in zoos who were begged to mate, but refused to listen to us humans, have finally consummated their live-in relationship. As they say in German, Wunderbar!

Videos/Posts of mother nature reclaiming earth - Covid-19.

So, to appreciate mother nature and to provide you all with some entertainment during these turbulent times, I have compiled a few interesting videos and posts that have been posted so far on animals enjoying their freedom during ‘human quarantine.’

We will be free again. But for how long?

Even after segments of the economy are opened and international travel resumes, we still would need to maintain some degree of social distancing and discipline, as the virus would not be eliminated 100% percent, it would only have been contained. Without a vaccine, the world is still at risk of a recurrence of the outbreak.

We are all hopeful and praying that the world will return to its normalcy, but to what degree things will be ‘normal’ is subjective.

Let us not repeat the same mistakes we made in the past. Let us not suffer again as we have during COVID-19. Let us value our loved one’s life and humanity as a whole because nature will not hesitate to strike again.

Please leave a comment or share with me yours or your friend’s lock-down COVID-19 experience. Feel free to also share your video clip. I would be delighted to add it to one of my articles. Stay safe. Sending prayers & love!
